About.
iies., the visionary lyricist celebrated for his acclaimed Hip-Hop EPs "Rebirth" and "Poetry in the Field," has transcended genre limitations to pioneer an experimental band that is redefining musical landscapes. Collaborating with Bassist Jacob Montano and Guitarist Aidan Roberts, iies. has forged an innovative musical approach, a genre they have christened "Experimental Jazz Rap." This groundbreaking fusion seamlessly melds intricate lyricism with the improvisational spirit of jazz and the rhythmic pulse of hip-hop, creating a sonic tapestry that is both captivating and thought-provoking. |
Their latest album, "Don't Forget The Dot," released on July 19th, 2024, stands as a testament to their unique Experimental Jazz Rap sound. The album, a collaborative endeavor with Bazil Gillen on drums and Killian Bertsch on keyboard, embarks on a sonic journey that transcends conventional genre boundaries, seamlessly blending elements of alternative hip-hop, rock, jazz, and a myriad of other influences. Each track serves as a canvas for the band's five distinct musical viewpoints, resulting in a cohesive yet diverse auditory experience that is both rich and nuanced. The "dot" in "iies." symbolizes these points of perspectives, representing each member's invaluable contribution to the collective vision.
iies.'s previous works, such as the poignant "Homesickness" featuring Kenny 6, Hannah Davis, and Paul Jesse (released on October 19th, 2022), further underscore their unwavering commitment to pushing artistic boundaries. "Homesickness" masterfully blends introspective lyricism with elements of folk, hip-hop, and singer-songwriter genres, creating a sonic landscape that is both intimate and expansive. iies. has also collaborated with Cat Evans on tracks like "W.T.F," a powerful response to the BLM riots of 2020, and "Charged Up," which further delves into contemporary social issues through the medium of music. These collaborations highlight iies.'s dedication to using their platform to spark dialogue and raise awareness about pressing social issues.
